Question

What is the Ruling of Describing a Blasphemous Lyric Good?

What is the ruling of a person who calls a song with blasphemous/kufr lyrics as a good song – if they just meant the non-kufr lyrics of the song were good?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I hope you are well, amin.

A person describing a blasphemous lyric as good – if they meant the non-kufr words to be good – will not be considered a statement of unbelief (kufr). However, it is grave sin and one repent immediately and seek Allah’s forgiveness abundantly. ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Music makes hypocrisy grow in the heart just as water makes crops grow.’

Turn Away, Don’t Repeat, Thank Allah and Take Steps to Strengthen Your Faith!

Allah (Most High) said, ‘Indeed, the Believers are successful. Those who are humble in their prayers, and those who turn away from useless speech.’ [Quran, 23:1-3]
