Question
Is experiencing orgasms after thinking about a man a sin? Is ghusl obligatory after vaginal discharge? Is ghusl obligatory after wet dreams? If I see extra vaginal discharge but am not sure that I had any dream of sexual nature at all, should I do a ghusl? Is ghusl obligatory after orgasm? (Please keep in mind that the female genital area is always wet) so if I notice extra vaginal discharge. Should I do a ghusl? because sometimes it’s hormonal. How to stop experiencing too many orgasms? What should a virgin girl do if she experiences too many orgasms?
Answer
Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for asking to clear up confusion and may He make it easy for you to get married soon.
Thoughts
It is not permissible to think about a man until you reach orgasm, rather one may only reach this pleasure with one’s spouse.

Fantasizing About the Opposite Sex
Wet Dreams
Taking a ritual bath (ghusl) after a wet dream (the exiting of maniyy) is obligatory, but not after the exiting of madhy, (arousal fluid), which only necessitates wudu (ablution).
Maniyy
It says in the Reliance of the Traveller:
Male sperm and female sexual fluid are recognized by the fact that they:
- come in spurts (by contractions);
- with sexual gratification;
- and when moist, smell like bread dough, and when dry, like egg-white.
When a substance from the genital orifice has any one of the above characteristics, then it is sperm or sexual fluid and makes the purificatory bath obligatory. When not even one of the above characteristics is present, it is not sperm or sexual fluid. Being white or thick is not necessary for it to be considered male sperm, and being yellow or thin is not necessary for it to be considered female sexual fluid.
Madhy
Madhy is arousal fluid which one would just wash off the underclothing, and then renew one’s ablution. Madhy is not typically yellow, but white and sticky.
It says in the Reliance of the Traveller:
If one does not know whether one’s discharge is sperm or whether it is madhy, then one may either:
- consider it sperm, and perform the purificatory bath (or in which case washing the
portions of clothes and so forth affected with it is not obligatory, as it is legally considered a pure substance); - or consider it madhy, and wash the affected portions of the body and clothes (which is obligatory, as it is legally considered filth), and perform ablution, though not the purificatory bath.
The best course in such cases of uncertainty is to do all of the above (of bathing, washing the affected portions, and ablution, so as to take due precaution in one’s worship).
Unsure about a Wet Dream
If you wake up and find extra vaginal discharge, but are unsure whether it was a wet dream, you can ignore it, assume it was madhy, wash the area and make wudu. There is no need to take a ghusl as certainty is not lifted by doubt. If you clearly see that it was a wet dream, by noticing one of the characteristics of maniyy mentioned above, then you must take a ghusl.
Ask Allah to help you reduce your thoughts about the opposite gender. Occupy your mind with good, make dhikr to blot out the sexual thoughts that come, and pray to find a suitable spouse at the right time.
